Sitting Service, Companionship & Chaperone Benefits
The aim of the sitting service is to give unpaid carers (often family) the opportunity to take a break from caring and have time out for themselves. offering companionship and chaperone services where required. Unpaid carers work hard, and it should not be underestimated just how stressful and tiring looking after a loved one 24/7 can be. We call it ‘companionship and sitting services’ as they offer slightly different things; the first offers the cared-for person company in terms of chatting, exploring hobbies, playing games etc, and the sitting service may be used where the cared-for person may be asleep or non-communicative; not wishing for much/any interaction but still allowing the unpaid carer to go to appointments, work, or simply to take a break.
