Support for Adults with Learning Disabilities

Assisting adults living at home with their learning disability care needs

Affordable alternative to assisted living

We support adults with a learning disability to remain living at home, providing a range of support options in blocks of care to work towards achieving the person’s goals. This can often be learning basic skills that promote independence to be able to live more independently with family, or to progress to living in their own home. Our support can be any of the following:-

Why Aster Care?

Aster Care is an established domiciliary care organisation providing up to 24 hour support at home to people with complex long-term conditions  and has now expanded its range of services to include support to adults with mild learning disabilities. We have the skills and knowledge to support theses needs; our Managing Director, Muthu Govindarajah,  has previously owned learning disability establishments across Surrey and our Care Coordinator, Jade McCloud,  has a background in working with people in supported living accommodation. We have harnessed these skills to offer a service that enables this very special group of people to  keeping people living in their own home, or to prepare to live alone as an independent adult when they are ready.

Our staff undergo an intensive basic training programme to include a 12 week induction period, followed by additional training in the pathway they will follow, Many of our team have delegated clinical skills, i.e., can carry out tasks generally undertaken by trained nurses. Our specially selected staff who work with those with a learning disability will undertake compulsory training in autism and epilepsy training (where relevant), and will use support plans that reflect the personal challenges and needs for the individual.

Staff will receive training in Positive Behaviour Support  (a 2 day course run by  Solent NHS), delivered by trainers from the Intensive Support Team. Our approach to support   encompasses  the 4 principles of Person Centred Active Support (PCAS): –

1. Every moment has potential

2. Little and often

3. Graded assistance

4. Maximising choice and control

Here are some of the support tasks we can assist with using PCAS: –

We’re proud of the care we provide

We are regulated by the Care Quality Commission and rated as Good, a status we are proud to hold.

You needn’t just take their view; our Google and Homecare.co.uk reviews paint a picture of the care we offer from our service users, their families and our team. Our Inspection Report can be accessed via the Home Page.

When can support start?

Firstly, we will carry out a free Needs Assessment to identify what level of service is required and to match those that need support with suitable care staff, both in skills and personality. We will then devise a person-centred care plan in a simple format that will be approved by the service user/family, updated where required.

We have a positive approach to risk, drawing up a detailed plan to minimise any risks to tasks/activities and maximise the enjoyment of life at home. Costs will be agreed upon, and we will issue our terms and conditions of service for your agreement.
